Can you use a product containing someone else's breastmilk?
Breast milk can be used as an ingredient in cold processed soap same as any other mammal. The purchase and use of that product is at the customers discretion. Cold process soapmaking involves mixing oils and fats with a lye solution to create soap through a natural chemical reaction called saponification. During this process, the lye is neutralized, and the soap becomes safe for use.
When using breast milk in cold processed soap, it is important to follow proper soapmaking procedures to ensure safety and effectiveness. This includes handling the breast milk with cleanliness and hygiene before use to eliminate potential contaminants, and adjusting the lye concentration appropriately to accommodate the additional liquid content.
It is crucial to note that the safety and stability of the soap depend on factors such as the quality of the breast milk used, proper handling, and storage conditions. If you have specific concerns or questions, it is recommended to consult with a Certified Lactation Consultant or IBCLC who can provide further guidance based on your individual circumstances.
